HEWAC to Sponsor Broadband Wireless World

HEWAC will conduct three panel discussions focused on wireless issues in higher education during upcoming "Broadband Wireless World" Conference

WASHINGTON DC, November 19, 2003 The Higher Education Wireless Access Consortium has reached an agreement with "Broadband Wireless World," the largest trade event focused on broadband fixed wireless access technology and services, to conduct a series of panel discussions focused on higher education wireless technology issues. Part of this agreement calls for HEWAC to be an association sponsor and host the "HEWAC Symposium" at the event on February 24 & 25, at the San Diego Convention Center. As an association sponsor, HEWAC's university and college members will be offered a substantial discount for registration to the event.

The HEWAC panels will provide updates on five HEWAC Working Groups. Each Working Group (wireless applications, wireless business models, wireless security, new wireless technology, and best practices/policy for wireless access) is chaired by a CIO or Sr. IT Manager from a HEWAC Charter Member University. Each group is currently working to develop a "solutions requirement document" as basis for defining the collective wireless needs of higher education. "We believe our working group's requirement documents will be defining documents for wireless technology on campus," said Dr. Paul Kolodzy, Director of Wireless Network Security at Steven's Institute and Chairman of HEWAC's Wireless Security Working Group.

Tentative Panel Schedule:

Panel A: Wireless Applications and New Technology for Higher Education
Time: 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM February 24, 2004

Panel B: Wireless Security on Campus
Time: 2: 00 PM - 3:30 PM February 24, 2004

Panel C: Best Practices and Successful Business Models for Wireless Access by colleges
Time: 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM February 25, 2004

"Advanced Wireless technology has tremendous potential for changing the way college and university members meet the needs of students, faculty and staff. We are pleased to be working with HEWAC and feel that the members of the organization will benefit from the exhibitors, speakers and sponsors who participate in Broadband Wireless World," said Timothy Downs, Event Director and Editor, Broadband Wireless Business.

"HEWAC is dedicated to providing a free flow of information and knowledge among our members. The panel discussions represent a concrete evidence of our desire to provide value Sť a chance for our members, the rest of the audience and panelists to hear leading edge thinking on how to best utilize wireless technology on campus," said Thomas Muleta Founder and CEO of HEWAC.
